From OB-GYN to HVAC: Why We Started The General Heating & Air in Cypress & Katy

February 26, 20263 min read

How does an OB-GYN end up co-owning an HVAC company?

It sounds unconventional, and honestly, it is.

But this isn’t a dramatic career leap story.

It’s a family business.

My husband is a licensed HVAC technician. I’m a physician and lifelong educator. And together, we’re building something that reflects both of us.

Education Has Always Been My Foundation

I spent over a decade practicing obstetrics and gynecology. My entire career centered around education: helping women understand their bodies so they could make confident decisions.

What I noticed over and over again was this:

When people understand what’s happening, fear decreases.

Confidence increases.

Better decisions follow.

That belief didn’t disappear when we started The General Heating & Air.

It simply followed me here.

Homeowners — especially women — are rarely taught how their HVAC systems work. Yet when something breaks, you’re suddenly faced with technical language and large invoices.

That vulnerability is uncomfortable.

And education changes that.

Why Air Quality Became Personal

Before moving to Texas, our family lived in Northern California.

My husband was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Our son needed surgery for enlarged tonsils and adenoids before age three. Our daughter had multiple ER visits for breathing issues.

Air quality wasn’t theoretical for us. It was personal.

Dust. Construction. Allergens. Pollution.

You can’t see most of it — but you feel it.

When we moved to the Houston area — Cypress and Katy specifically — we realized air quality challenges look different here.

Less wildfire smoke.

More humidity.

More new construction.

Different allergens.

But the need for clean indoor air is just as important.

That’s why The General Heating & Air focuses heavily on:

  • Filtration

  • Airflow

  • Humidity control

  • Preventive maintenance

  • Whole-home air quality

Your AC isn’t just a cooling machine. It’s the lungs of your home.

Building a Husband-and-Wife HVAC Company

Adé leads the technical side. He is a licensed HVAC technician with years of training and troubleshooting experience.

I lead education, communication, and systems.

We built The General Heating & Air around one principle:

Education first.

When we walk into your home in Cypress or Katy, you will understand:

  • What’s wrong

  • Why it matters

  • What your options are

  • What each option costs

  • What happens if you do nothing

No pressure. Just clarity.

Why This Channel Exists

I am learning HVAC just like you are.

Yes, I have a medical background. Yes, I understand complex systems.

But HVAC? That’s new territory.

And that’s actually the point.

If I can break it down so a homeschooling five-year-old understands it, then you can feel confident too.

No question is too basic.

No concept is too complicated to explain.

If you live in Cypress, Katy, or the surrounding Houston suburbs and want to better understand:

  • HVAC maintenance

  • Indoor air quality

  • Air filters

  • System replacement

  • Humidity problems

  • Why prices vary

You’re in the right place.

The Health of Your Home Matters

At The General Heating & Air, we believe education builds confidence.

When your system breaks, you shouldn’t feel vulnerable.

When someone explains your options, you shouldn’t feel confused.

When you invest thousands of dollars, you should understand why.

If you’re in Cypress or Katy and want to learn more about your HVAC system before you ever need a repair, explore our video library or reach out with your questions.

Because clean air and a comfortable home aren’t luxuries.

They’re foundational.
