Air Purification & UV-C in Cypress & Katy
Clean air is half our name. Filtration, UV-C, and purification each do a different job. The right one depends on what your home's air actually needs.
The General Heating & Air installs air purification equipment in Cypress and Katy, TX, in three layers: media filtration for particles like dust, pollen, and pet dander; UV-C light at the evaporator coil to interrupt biological growth; and active purification options that reduce viruses, bacteria, and VOCs. The right combination is chosen after an indoor air quality assessment of the home. Call (832) 558-8539 or schedule online.
Three layers, three different jobs
- Media filtration. A deep media filter has far more surface area than a standard 1-inch filter. It captures smaller particles, dust, pollen, pet dander, without choking your system's airflow.
- UV-C at the coil. A UV-C light mounted near the evaporator coil runs continuously and interrupts biological growth on the coil surface. If you smell something musty when the AC kicks on, that's the problem it addresses at the source.
- Active purification. For what filters alone can't catch: viruses, bacteria, and VOCs. These options treat the air itself as it moves through the system.
We measure before we recommend
No two homes need the same setup. A house with allergy concerns needs different help than a house with a musty coil smell or a nursery you want extra care around.
So we start with an indoor air quality assessment: humidity reading, filter condition, coil and drain-line condition, and system airflow. You see what's actually happening, then the options that address it. Nothing more.
Humidity is the layer most Houston homes need first; that one lives on our whole-home dehumidification page. The full picture of how we approach air is on the Indoor Air Quality page, and the science behind it is in our guide to what affects indoor air quality.
Questions, answered
Why does my house smell musty when the AC turns on?
That smell is usually biological growth on the evaporator coil, and it circulates every time the system runs. A UV-C light mounted at the coil runs continuously and addresses it at the source.
Do UV lights in HVAC systems actually work?
At the coil, yes. UV-C is proven at interrupting biological growth on the coil surface it shines on. It is not a whole-home cure-all, which is why it's one layer of three, matched to what your home needs.
Is a media filter better than a regular 1-inch filter?
For most homes, meaningfully better. The deep pleats give it far more surface area, so it captures smaller particles while letting your system breathe. A restrictive 1-inch filter can choke airflow even as it filters.
Do I need an air purifier?
It depends on what your air actually needs, which is why we measure first. An indoor air quality assessment shows your humidity, filtration, and airflow. If your air is in good shape, we'll tell you that.
